Going for a walk up in the old town "Le Suquet" you will find a spectacular view over the harbor, the promenade La Croisette and the Lerins islands, Ile Sainte Marguerite and Ile Saint Honorat. Do absolutely not miss the Fort Royal on Sainte-Marguerite that was where the legendary "Man with the Iron Mask" was imprisoned from 1687 to 1698. The fort now houses a museum telling of this event and on the maritime history, fauna, flora and archaeological finds that are older than the island itself. Visit Saint Honore, the Lerins monastery is still inhabited today. To get to the islands sail boats from the port of Cannes leave several times a day and it you want a trip to St. Tropez or Monaco and want avoid the heavy traffic during the peak season you can sail by water taxi from Cannes.
